and already used the gzipping script while having my maps installed -- skip this ;)

But if you gzipped all EL files, but forgot to install the maps priot, then just download the new mappack with g-zipped bmps and unpack them - as usual - to the EL directory.

Gzipped maps works faster (in some cases) and takes few times less disk space than the raw bmp files.

Gzipped maps can be used without having the whole EL client compressed, and works both, on Windows and Linux.
